  7. This document provides important information regarding 
  8. this Windows product that wasn't available when the jewel
  9. case insert was printed. Please review the contents of this
  10. file before using Cancer for Windows.

  43. A. CD-ROM caching 
  44. ================= 
  45.   To increase the speed of your program, you should use 
  46.   SMARTDRV.EXE's CD-ROM caching.  This option is available in 
  47.   DOS 6.2 and higher. 
  48.  
  49. To enable CD-ROM caching: 
  50. ------------------------- 
  51.   1. In your "AUTOEXEC.BAT" file, Make sure that the CD-ROM 
  52.      extensions program, CorelCDX or MSCDEX, is loaded before  
  53.      SMARTDRV.  For example: 
  54.         . 
  55.         C:\BIN\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001 /M:10 
  56.         . 
  57.         C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE /X /L 2048 
  58.         .

  60.   2. Give SMARTDRV.EXE the default cache size of 2048K as shown  
  61.      in the example above.

  65. B. Improving Performance 
  66. ======================== 
  67.  
  68.   If you notice that your Corel Medical disk is running slowly, 
  69.   setting your video driver to 256 color mode may improve 
  70.   performance.  For further information on setting color mode, 
  71.   see the documentation provided by your video card 
  72.   manufacturer.

  76. C. Trouble Shooting 
  77. =================== 
  78.  
  79.  1. Text cut off in some dialog boxes 
  80.  ------------------------------------
  81.    The Large Fonts settings in some video drivers are not
  82.    supported and can cause text to overrun the boundaries of
  83.    dialog boxes, or can cause the main application window to
  84.    appear too large. To avoid this problem, please disable
  85.    Large Fonts and restart the Corel Medical title. For
  86.    further information on disabling large fonts, see the
  87.    documentation provided by your video card manufacturer.
  88.    If you still have problems, please see also the next
  89.    section below regarding the installation of the TIMES
  90.    NEW ROMAN font. 
  91.    
  92.  2. Print output doesn't look correct 
  93.  ------------------------------------
  94.    If you see strange characters when you print from this  
  95.    Corel Medical title, check that the TIMES NEW ROMAN and 
  96.    ARIAL fonts (windows defaults) are installed on your system.
  97.    For information on installing fonts, see the documentation  
  98.    provided with Windows.

  100.  3. Clipboard objects cleared when Stedmans or Quicktime
  101.     movies are launched
  102.  ------------------------------------------------------
  103.    Please note that when the Stedmans Medical Dictionary is
  104.    launched or a QuickTime 'movie in a window' is opened,
  105.    the clipboard contents are cleared. If you have items 
  106.    stored on the clipboard for use in other applications,
  107.    please be sure to save them before starting Cancer.

  109.  4. System appears frozen when a text hyperlink is clicked
  110.  ---------------------------------------------------------
  111.    Please note that when a hyperlink (red text) is clicked on,
  112.    a complex search is started and your system may appear
  113.    frozen momentarily. Please do not reset the system, but
  114.    rather simply give the computer a little time to work and
  115.    display the search results on screen. Note that some of the
  116.    more complex links can take up to twenty seconds to display,
  117.    and during this time there is no indication on screen that
  118.    the system is "thinking".

  120.  5. "Cannot display entry" error when using Stedmans
  121.  ---------------------------------------------------
  122.    Please note that in order for Stedmans Medical Dictionary
  123.    to function properly, you must have a printer driver
  124.    installed on your system. If you do not have a printer
  125.    driver installed, you may get an error indicating that an
  126.    entry cannot be displayed. To avoid this problem, please be
  127.    sure that your system has a properly installed Windows
  128.    print driver. Note that you do not need a physical printer
  129.    attached to your system, only a printer driver is required.

  131.    documentation or online help.

  133. 6. System freezes when using Autorun  
  134. ------------------------------------
  135.    Under certain hardware/system configurations, use of the
  136.    Windows 95 Autorun feature may cause the system to stop
  137.    responding at the startup of this Medical title. If this
  138.    occurs, restart your system and either disable the Autorun
  139.    feature, or simply click the exit button when the Autorun
  140.    screen appears. You may then use the normal start menu
  141.    icon for Cancer to launch the product.
  142.  
  143. 7. Quicktime videos get choppy and/or sound speeds up
  144. -----------------------------------------------------
  145.    On certain hardware/system configurations, users that have
  146.    older 8bit sound cards and drivers may experience a problem
  147.    while playing the Quicktime videos contained in this
  148.    product. There have been cases where the videos may start
  149.    to get choppy while playing, and/or the sound in the movie
  150.    may appear to speed up. This problem usually occurs after
  151.    working with the product for a lengthy period of time, or
  152.    if the videos are replayed frequently. If this issue
  153.    becomes a problem, simply restart the Medical Title and/or
  154.    Windows and the problem should be temporarily corrected.

  156.  8. Steadmans may not display properly when accessed 
  157. ----------------------------------------------------
  158.    Under certain conditions, if the Steadmans Medical dictionary
  159.    is accessed multiple times by closing it completely and
  160.    reopening it in the same session, an error may occur in your
  161.    application. If this occurs, simply refrain from closing
  162.    Steadmans Medical Dictionary, simply leave it running in the
  163.    background after using it, and it therefore will be accessible
  164.    whenever you need it without having to reopen it each time.

  168. D. Reinstalling Quicktime for Windows
  169. =====================================
  170.  
  171.   If you are experiencing problems with the playback of 
  172.   movie/animation clips, you should try reinstalling the
  173.   Apple Quicktime for Windows drivers.
  174.  
  175.   For Windows 95:
  176.    To reinstall Quicktime For Windows:
  177.     -Locate and double click the QT directory on
  178.       the root of your Cancer disk.
  179.     -Locate and double click the QT32.EXE file 
  180.       and follow the onscreen messages to reinstall
  181.       the Quicktime 32bit drivers for Windows 95.

  183.   For Windows 3.1X:
  184.    To reinstall Quicktime For Windows:
  185.     -Locate and double click the QT directory on
  186.       the root of your Cancer disk.
  187.     -Locate and double click the QT16.EXE file 
  188.       and follow the onscreen messages to reinstall
  189.       the Quicktime 16bit drivers for Windows 3.1x.

  193. E. Presentation 3.0 Notes

  198.    Please note the following errata in the Presentations 3.0 
  199.    electronic documentation: The images corresponding to the
  200.    specific file names referenced in the QuickArt (Figure)
  201.    Editing Solutions section on pages 52 through 65, are not
  202.    included on the CD. Rather, there are a series of Medical
  203.    theme clipart images in several different categories which
  204.    can be incorporated into any slide show. For the purpose
  205.    of walking through the instructional sections of the
  206.    manual, simply substitute any other image that is present
  207.    in the Figurgal.shw file.
